How to use our templates

It's simple!   Just click on the link below and download the template as a Word doc.  We recommend that you save it now to your own PC or USB Flash Drive.  When you modify our template to create your own covering letter, select "save as" and give it a title that contains the name of the role you are applying for and the date your letter was produced.  This is a great way of keeping your job applications organised.

For example, if you are applying for a retail assistant role on July 25, 2009, we suggest you save your covering letter as "Retail Assistant.July 25 2009".

Each job you apply for should have its own covering letter.  When applying for many different jobs it can be hard to keep track.  If you have saved each covering letter under its relevant job title and date, you can readily access it for review in the event you secure a screening interview.

Keep the master template and you can use it again and again.

Our template documents are not locked.  This means you can change existing headings or insert new ones to suit your individual needs.  You will see in the template where you need to insert your own text.  Simply click and hold down the left mouse button to highlight the block of text you want to change.  It's that easy!

Creating a great cover letter starts with careful thought and planning.  Make sure you also check out our Cover Letter Fact Sheets for useful information and ideas.
